About World Golf Village — King & Bear
The King & Bear at World Golf Village is a historically unique collaboration - the only golf course co-designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus together, two legends whose competitive relationship is woven through the game's modern history. The 7,279-yard par-72 layout opened in 2000 alongside the World Golf Hall of Fame, with sprawling oak-shaded corridors and a deliberate tribute to the heritage of the game. Public access at a price point that makes the pilgrimage easy to justify.
History
World Golf Village — King & Bear — History
Palmer and Nicklaus collaborated on the King & Bear for World Golf Village, opening in 2000. It remains their only joint design, and Nicklaus returned for renovation work in 2017.
Design
World Golf Village — King & Bear — Design
The only course Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus ever designed together. Their contrasting instincts are the design: Scottish-links ideas sit alongside modern American ones, and the result is wide fairways with bunkering that makes the wide line cost you an angle. The lakes are edged with native coquina rock throughout. The front nine runs among loblolly pine, the back beneath oaks that are centuries old. It puts its emphasis on approach play and short game rather than driving.
