About Streamsong Resort — Red Course
The Red Course at Streamsong is a Coore & Crenshaw minimalist masterpiece routed across reclaimed phosphate mining land that produces some of the most dramatic dunescape in the eastern United States. Firm, fast, and relentlessly natural, the Red plays at the mercy of wind and features expansive sandy waste areas, wildly contoured fairways, and the open sky of the central Florida heartland. One of the three finest new courses built in the South in the past twenty years.
History
Streamsong Resort — Red Course — History
The Red Course opened in 2012 as one of Streamsong Resort's original two layouts, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw on reclaimed mining land near Fort Meade. Its firm, rumpled ground and towering sand dunes helped make Streamsong a national destination, and it is routinely ranked among America's top public courses.
Design
Streamsong Resort — Red Course — Design
Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw's course at Streamsong, opened alongside Doak's Blue in 2012 on the same reclaimed phosphate-mine sandland. The two were built simultaneously and intertwine across the property, which invites the comparison the resort was designed to provoke. Coore and Crenshaw work in a minimalist idiom -- holes found in the existing ground, wide fairways, and difficulty concentrated in angles and green surrounds rather than in hazards blocking the way forward.
