About PGA National Resort — The Match Course
The Match Course is PGA National's fifth and most recent layout - designed for match-play dynamics with shorter par 4s, visible risk-reward decision points, and a faster pace of play than the resort's championship courses. At 6,492 yards from the tips, it's the most approachable of the five and works well for resort guests who want to play multiple rounds in a day or want their handicap protected.

Andy Staples designed The Match in 2021 on the site of PGA National's former Squire course, giving the resort a deliberately unconventional fifth eighteen.
Design
PGA National Resort — The Match Course — Design
Andy Staples built The Match in 2021 around match play rather than stroke play, and the design follows from that. The entire playing area is cut to fairway height, which puts the emphasis on the ground game and removes the usual penalty for missing a green. Chipping areas around the putting surfaces leave several trajectories and routes open rather than dictating one. At par 67 and under 5,800 yards it is the shortest of the resort's courses and the most argued-about.
