Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne is routed along Biscayne Bay with skyline views on almost every hole - a Miami-Dade county course that regularly ranks among the top public layouts in the United States. The design plays firm and demanding, with salt-air breezes and waterside risk making the back nine one of the most scenic stretches of public-access golf in Florida.
History
Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne — History
Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin built the course on Key Biscayne in 1972, originally as The Links at Key Biscayne. Von Hagge returned in 1993 to rebuild the greens and reconfigure the bunkering. For years it hosted a senior tour event, and it has long claimed the largest teeing ground in the world.
Design
Crandon Golf at Key Biscayne — Design
Robert von Hagge and Bruce Devlin built Crandon in 1972 on Key Biscayne, and von Hagge returned in 1993 to rebuild the greens and reconfigure the bunkering. The setting does the defending: seven saltwater lakes, mangrove thickets, and holes that look out over Biscayne Bay. It is a genuinely subtropical round -- iguanas, herons and ibis are part of the experience -- played over Bermuda fairways to TifEagle greens at 7,182 yards, par 72.
